Metallized Film

Vacuum-aluminized polyester (PET) film — the raw material that becomes metallic yarn

Metallized film is a composite raw material produced by vacuum-depositing aluminum onto biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polyester film. It is the core raw material for our metallic yarns (Sim İplik — M, MX, PX, MH and ST types): the film is produced in master rolls and then slit into fine strips that form the finished yarn.

Production process: Under very high vacuum, aluminum is heated and vaporised by resistance-heated ceramic boats, then condensed onto the moving PET film as an atomic layer a few hundred ångströms thick. In an ALU-PET construction, the aluminum layer is laminated between two PET films, so both faces are protected by polyester for maximum colour and brightness durability.

Properties: High brightness and reflectivity, heat resistance, chemical and dimensional stability, and barrier properties against light, moisture, oxygen and gases — along with strong electromagnetic reflection. Standard film thicknesses are 12, 25 and 30 microns; colour options are essentially unlimited (silver, gold, pearl, black, blue, etc.).

Applications: Primarily slit into metallic yarn (Sim İplik). Beyond that, the film is used in luxury packaging, decorative laminations, embroidery and woven embellishment, thermal insulation materials (space-blanket-style) and EMI shielding applications.

Features

  • 12 micron (50 gauge) — Standard thickness for metallic yarn, most widely used.
  • 25 micron (100 gauge) — Mid-thickness for heavier metallic yarns.
  • 30 micron (120 gauge) — High-strength specialty production.
  • ALU-PET (PET / Aluminum / PET) — Sandwich construction with both faces sealed by polyester film for superior colour durability.
  • Colour options — Silver and gold as standard; pearl, black, blue and other bespoke colours on request.
  • Slit widths — Standard 1/69", 1/100", 1/85", 1/92", 1/110", 1/127"; special cuts at 1/32" (0.8 mm), 1 mm and 3 mm available.
  • High brightness, heat resistance, light/moisture/gas barrier.
